Counseling for 2SLGBTIA+

Teens and Adults

How can therapy help me as a queer person?

Psychotherapy aims to help 2SLGBTQIA+ folx decrease the difficult or unhelpful emotions someone might feel about their sexual orientation or gender identity and help them show up as their true self in their world. Therapy can help with coming out to friends, family, or co-workers. Our therapists are skilled at helping clients navigate the particular challenges that the 2SLGBTQIA+ Community face daily. These might include:

  • Depression

  • Anxiety

  • Coming out at any age

  • Fears about safety

  • Find community

  • Shame

  • Trauma

  • Religious trauma

  • Losing family or friends.

Your therapy sessions will focus on your individual needs. The first thing your therapist will do is get to know you as a whole person, so you don’t have to leave any of your identities at the door. You are welcome here.

Some days you feel completely invisible. You wonder who will see you or accept you. You just want to be you.

When you need someone to walk with you through the struggles of discovering yourself, coming out, or coping with daily life, we’re here.

You don’t have to go through this alone.

Psychotherapy for 2SLGBTIA+ teens may look like:

  • Play therapy: This type of therapy uses play to help your child express their feelings or process through difficult situations. It can look like many different things, such as coloring, playing card games, listening to music, or playing with dolls/action figures. These strategies can help your child connect with the therapist and allow them to open up.

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy: This type of therapy helps to identify the connections between one’s thoughts, emotions, and behaviors to that the child can better manage all three. In session, the child might learn to use their thoughts to regulate their emotions. They might practice calming their body so that their thoughts stop racing. Or they might examine their behaviors to find different solutions.

  • Family Therapy: Even though you’ll be involved in all your child’s therapy process, Family Therapy emphasizes the family dynamics, interactions between parents and children, and making changes in the family system.

  • Behavior Therapy: This type of therapy focuses on understanding and changing a child’s behavior. These strategies can be used to strengthen helpful behaviors and reduce unhelpful ones. Often times, parents will be trained in specific skills and techniques to try.
